Cooking Up a Secret

The last few days we have been enjoying a little break from real life that has even included a break from the Internet!  It has been a great time of being together as a family without all the stress and busyness of schedules, alarm clocks, and daily duties.

This afternoon our Scientist and I slipped away for a bit in search of some free wifi and we now find ourselves sitting in the parking lot of a Hardees restaurant in an effort to connect with the outside world.

Even though you haven't heard from me in a few days, I have been checking off my March Quest.  The beauty of a break is that there is time to sit, relax, and read a book.  I'm still reading the book my friend recommended, but I have enjoyed a bit from a couple other books as well.

Today, during a fun family outing, I picked up a local cookbook.  I have enjoyed paging through it, reading the recipes handed down through the local families, and also taking in all the tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the book.

It's kind of an amusing story, but the biggest reason I purchased this cookbook today was because of a sweet little southern lady.  She's the one that sold me the book.  She shared a wonderful secret with me about a recipe in the book.  She pointed the recipe out and noted that it was a recipe from her sister.

Her sister is well known for making a special kind of bread known by another name.  She also gave me a little tip that just might make mine taste extra yummy.  I can't wait to try the recipe and see how it comes out!

It really doesn't matter what type of book I am reading whether it is a memoir by a mom raising teenagers or a small town cookbook filled with family favorites passed down for generations, I truly enjoy time spent reading a book.

And if I can connect to the book in a special way, it makes it all the more delightful.
