Our family went to bed early this morning instead of last night because we were waiting for Hubby to return from a week long business trip. His flight was delayed twice, but he finally made it home in the wee hours of the morning. We enjoyed a few precious minutes together as a family before finally heading to bed.
Then we were up just a few hours later to get our Scientist on his morning flight back to college. Hubby, our Engineer, and I saw him off at the airport. We have a little ritual we go through when we send him back to school. We walk him to the security area, watch him go through that process, and once he is completely through and ready to go to his gate, he turns around, finds us in the crowd and waves one last goodbye.
So we did that this morning and then drove back home. I was feeling a bit worn out from very little sleep, the emotions of welcoming Hubby back home, and saying goodbye to our oldest for a few months.
When we returned home, I crawled back into the Hug Bed, watched a little TV, and took a nap. When I woke up rain was pouring from the sky and that suited me just fine. It fit the mood that hangs over our house when our Scientist returns to school. In a few days, we will settle back into our routine...but we miss him when he's not here. We just like being together.
After my much needed nap (and maybe a little chocolate), I knew I better get up and get on the treadmill, or I wouldn't exercise today.
Down to the basement I headed. To encourage me, Hubby went with me. He did a little exercising himself while I walked on the treadmill. Then he worked on a project while I finished up my two miles and weight lifting. We chatted the entire time which made it go by faster.
Before we knew it, it was time for supper, and then I settled into the Hug Chair to do a little writing.
Write Something: The Story of the Hug Chair
You may have noticed I have mentioned the Hug Chair in several of my blog posts. It's probably my favorite piece of furniture in the house.
I discovered this comfy little chair at a favorite eclectic furniture shop during an annual shopping trip with a dear friend. Since we both worked in education, we set aside time during our Christmas break every December to spend a day shopping. It was something I looked forward to every year when we lived near each other.
We stopped by this interesting shop and wandered through all the little rooms filled with unique items. We took turns pointing out pieces we liked and then we came to this cute little "barrel" chair. It wasn't pink...and it wasn't red. It was a lovely pinkish reddish color. I fell in love with it immediately.
Thinking of our other furniture, I knew it would go perfectly in our living room. I decided to try it out. The fabric was soft and with the way the chair wrapped around me when I settled into it, it felt like a hug. It fit me perfectly, sitting low to the ground. My short legs did not dangle! It seemed that this chair was made for me.
I don't typically purchase furniture without discussing it with Hubby and we weren't really shopping for a chair anyway, so I left the chair sitting there in the shop.
We took off for the next store, but I couldn't get that cute little chair off my mind. Later that evening, when chatting with Hubby about my day, I mentioned the adorable little chair, but I figured that was the end of it.
The next day, Hubby and I were out running errands, and we were going to be in the area of that fabulous little furniture shop. I mentioned the chair again...and Hubby said he was willing to stop by and take look at it.
It just so happened the shop was having a sale that day and the price of the chair was marked down for that day only. After seeing how much I loved the little chair (and considering it was on sale as well) Hubby agreed that the chair was made for me and we should take it home with us.
We arrived home with it and even the boys thought it was the perfect chair for me. Enjoying how comfy our new purchase was, I named it the Hug Chair.
I love it because it's cute, comfy, and just the right size for me. I love it because it reminds me of those much enjoyed and much missed shopping trips with my sweet friend. I love it because it is a gift from my husband. I love it because in a very boy filled home, it's something girly that is really just mine.
And just so you know...we don't name all of our furniture...just the special pieces.
