Just Write Something...every single day...for a month. How hard could that be? I really thought when I planned out my January Quest, it would be the Exercising Every Day part that would be the challenge for me. So far, I'm getting up each morning and getting on the treadmill without much difficulty. The Write Something Every Day part? A little more difficult. Just sayin....
I walked 2 miles today. I'm pretty pleased with that considering that when I started this back-to-exercising thing on Tuesday I had not really exercised in several months. I'm not breaking any records or impressing anyone, but for me personally, I'm pleased. At least I'm doing more than sitting in my Hug Chair.
In my effort to write something every day, I am finding myself going down a path I had not even considered. As I mentioned on Wednesday, when I settled down to try my hand at writing, I was drawn to Ephesians 5.
Focusing first on just a handful of verses from this chapter, I started sharing stories and thoughts inspired by those few verses. I wrote and wrote. I went back to Chapter 5 and read some more. Then I wrote some more.
Today when I returned to the story devotional, I realized there was a lot more to this chapter than those few verses I was focusing on last Wednesday.
It dawned on me, whenever I read or hear a verse (or verses) from the Bible, I usually want to look them up and read the verses before and after. I want to understand the context. I want to make sure I get the meaning. With that thought in mind, I decided to go back to the beginning of Ephesians 5 and read the whole chapter.
When I started this first writing project a few days ago, I thought I would be weaving together a few of my stories with a scripture verse here and there. Today I came to a new understanding - that is not how this is going to work.
It turns out, I'm going to work my way through the entire chapter, taking it in, learning, and maybe sharing a story or two along the way. So that's what I did today. I went back to the beginning and read the whole chapter. Then I read a commentary on Ephesians. After that, I did a bit more research and readings. Finally, I started writing again.
It sounded so simple a few days ago when I decided on this Quest. Just Write Something...every single day...for a month. How hard could that be?
Another lesson learned for this girl. Yes...another lesson learned...
